The finals of this year's National Championship are being held at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday, November 16th at the Lilian Baylis Theatre in the Sadler's Wells complex in Islington. Players from around the country played in rated events to qualify for a 56-player 7-game quarter-finals held August 31st at the Strathdon Hotel in Nottingham. The top four players ( Terry Kirk, Pete Finley, Harshan Lamabadusuriya and Clive Spate) advanced to the semifinals on November 15th to determine the two finalists.
Semifinal standings were: Lamabadusuriya (5-1 +367), Spate (4-2 +177), Kirk (2-4 -347) and Finley (1-5 -197). The two finalists, Lamabadusuriya and Spate, advanced to the best-of-five finals to crown the new National Champion.
