I am helping Annette Tedesco, David Goodman and John Morse run the event this year, in memory of their late director, Steve Pfeiffer. I am in turn being assisted by Britt Westman (Word Judge), Kristen Chew (Very Understanding Wife Who Has Spent Her Fourth Wedding Anniversary Driving To A Tournament On A Hot Day While Five Months Pregnant, Registrar, Player, Score Checker), Lauren Pfeiffer (Steve's daughter, who addressed the players eloquently before play started, and stayed around to help sort tally slips and CSCs), Lisa Kessler, Sherrie Saint John and Kevin McCarthy (all of whom took time between and after rounds to help check results). There have been no major snafus so far (aside from our arriving three hours late, but still in plenty of time to get things set up), and the players have been keeping things moving like clockwork. We have 126 players in total: 30 players in Division 1, 54 in Division 2 and 42 in Division 3. I am using my 'tsh' program (running for the first time under OS/X) and doing the data entry myself. It assigned fixed pairings for the first three rounds, consisting of round robin groups of four players selected randomly from each quartile, with one partial round robin of six players chosen randomly from each sextile because none of the divisions were divisible by four. We will run one-round-delayed (Fontes) Swiss pairings for the seven games that we will play starting at 10:00 A.M. tomorrow. I will report again tomorrow night (a little earlier, I hope).
