The Toronto SCRABBLE® Club (North American SCRABBLE Players Association Club #3) hosts its 39th annual tournament this fall, an open SCRABBLE® Brand Crossword Game tournament. The event will be directed by John Chew with help from Lynda Wise (catering).

New Location! Due to continuing scheduling issues at our venue, we will be playing Friday and Saturday at our occasional alternate venue, the Skaters Lounge at the Herbert H. Carnegie Centennial Centre.

Prizes: 75% of EF−PF 60–65% of EF−PF
Format: One division, 7 rounds, Chew pairings (including Gibsonization) with three-round initial fixed pairings. Players will be assigned to TWL divisions using their NASPA ratings at time of registration; but may request reassignment based on newer ratings, up to and including the EB results. If your rating is 1500 or over, you must play in Division A. If your rating is 1100 or over, you must play in Division A or B. If there are fewer than the minimum required four players in any division, it will be merged with another division. If you do not specify a rating when you register, you will be placed in the lowest permitted division. 7 rounds Saturday, 7 rounds Sunday. Modified Swiss (TSH) pairings (Gibson rule in effect) by John Chew.
Food: Refreshments, opt-in pizza. Refreshments and opt-in pizza served Saturday; lunch provided by Toronto SCRABBLE Club members on Sunday.

Clocks will be started promptly to maintain the above schedule, and any player who misses a scheduled game may be removed from subsequent pairings until they return and the next pairings are calculated.

Travel Notes

Toronto has two main airports: Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), 22 km west of the tournament venue along an expressway, and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), 14 km south of the tournament venue along city streets. U.S. residents might find it cheaper, but less convenient, to fly to Buffalo International Airport (BUF), 180 km along expressways from the tournament venue.

Entries after that date (including walk-ins) will be accepted on a space-available basis, paid in cash. You may also pay Lisa Kessler or John Chew in person at the Toronto Scrabble Club many Wednesday evenings, or by INTERAC Email at Please include your name, telephone number, address, valid NASPA membership number (unless this is your first tournament) and preferred division. If you would like confirmation of your registration, please also include your e-mail address. You may choose your division according to your current rating; you will not be required to change divisions should your rating change after registration. If you are eligible to play in more than one division, and are willing to play up or down in order to make division sizes even, please let me know; if you are the lowest-ranked such player in your division, we will refund you $10 after registration closes.
