We're running on schedule, and though TD Amy Byrne still thinks the room is noisy by British standards, I have never seen so quiet a room full of Maltese players. With the pairings being divided each round into the top 12 and bottom 16, it's not surprising that in Round 19, we have a lot of repeat pairings. Playing for the first time are David Delicata (MLT) and Nigel Richards (MYS), and Sam Kantimathi (USA) and Craig Beevers (Eng). Nigel has his sixth consecutive 500+ game and his 13th of his tournament, winning 566-378 to climb to 16-3 +3162. Helen Gipson (Sco) also has a high game, beating Jojo Delia (MLT) for the second time, 540-283 to reach 15-4 +1227. Nigel is now averaging 510 points per game, Harshan Lamabadusuriya (Eng) (in third place after a 512-416 win over Vincent Boyle (Sco)) 457 points and Helen 452. Marion Loewenstein (ISR) had her second one-point loss of the event, to Carmen Borg (MLT). Her first was to Reno Zammit (MLT) in the very first round. Division BCharles Micallef (MLT) slips a game after losing 296-427 to Nicky Huitson (Eng). He's at 14-5 +1315, now three games behind Jayne MacKenzie (Eng), whose 480-328 win over Anna Borg (MLT) pushes her to 17-2 +1698. Annemarie Holland (MLT) won 398-307 over Mary Doyle (IRL) and catches up to Charles on wins, but with only +524 spread. |
