The event is being paired strict Swiss, with no repeats for the first two days, and three KOTH rounds at the end, so I expect many more repeat pairings than I'd usually see in a tournament of this stature. One big reason for the pairings is the handicap prize system, where prizes of THB 10,000, 5,000 and 2,500 will be awarded to players based on their handicapped totals: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss, plus a base handicap value somewhere between 0 and 20, to be announced tomorrow. (The handicap point total will appear on the electronic scoreboard cryptically identified as HP.) Two players score 462 and lose this round, Akkarapol Khwansak (THA) 462-467 to Thacha Koowirat (THA) and Jason Katz-Brown (USA) 462-464 to Charnrit Khongthanarat (THA). The highest loss so far is still Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) 476-536 to Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) in Round 2. We're down to three undefeated players now. Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) scores a narrow win, 400-373 vs. Alex Tan (MYS); Chollapat Itthi-aree (THA) beats Odette Carmina Rio (PHL) 451-392 and Komol Panyasophonlert (THA) beats Preedee Kongthanaran (THA) 457-346. One more round before the welcome reception. |
