Round 13: 3 more rounds to go before anyone can have the evening off and enjoy the delights of Malta on a Saturday night. The major hot spot for disco lovers and clubbers is in Paceville which sprawls up the hill from St. Georges Bay. The only problem that most of the Scrabblers would have is they would feel a little old compared to the local ravers who average between 14- 20 years of age and the music for the most part is completely unrecognizable to anyone over 25 - this is of course all on hearsay as I have never been there after dark! A more sedate pleasure to be enjoyed on a Saturday evening is to eat Maltese style cuisine - that's if you like rabbit or FENEK in Maltese. It's cooked in various ways but normally stewed and served with potatoes - definitely worth a try! On the top table Edward Martin (Eng) and Elie Dangoor (Eng) are doing battle with Elie kicking off after a couple of moves with AMBIANCe for102 as he was able to place it on a 4 Xer. Ed immediately countered with BAUDIEs for 95, but Elie challenged it off the board! Ed was struggling after this setback until he played vISAGED for 84, but was still nearly 100 behind. After a couple more moves Ed was able to play COREIGN for 99, which pulled him back within 11 points of Elie. But Elie was having none of it and countered with SNEAKER for 104. He scored another 38 with ZEX and then added an S to his SNEAKER and with the same S joined the X with an E for SEX scoring both words on the triple for another 68. Final score to Elie was 528-400. |
