Round 8. Towards the end of each round the players who have finished early, naturally enough, cannot wait to 'discuss' their tiles, their plays, their bonuses and their clever end games - unfortunately, with a playing hall that has unusually poor acoustics, the decibel level soon rises to disco/rave volume! The attempts by the TD (Tournament Director) to quieten everyone down have only been partially successful! Two Maltese Players are on Table 1 for this round - the unbeaten Jojo Delia (MLT) and Theresa Brousson (MLT) (nee Camilleri), the present Malta Scrabble Champion. Along with David Delicata (MLT), these three players represented Malta at the last World Scrabble Championships which were held in Mumbai in 2007. Theresa kicked off with the first bonus - OBVIATES. Jojo replied shortly after with SECTION. Scores at this stage have Theresa ahead - but not by very much! In the end Theresa maintained her lead and finally broke Jojo's winning streak! Any International Scrabble Tournament requires plenty of organisation and the MOST is no exception. Theresa Brousson has been the driving force behind this particular Tournament along with the full support of the Committee of the Malta Scrabble Club and Cecil Muscat (MLT). One cannot survive without Sponsors and we were very lucky to be able to enlist the support of the Malta Tourism Authority, Scotts Supermarkets, which have a chain of excellent supermarkets across the islands and Intercomp, who are the Maltese Dealers for Dell computers and Nokia phones. The Malta Scrabble Club cannot thank these kind sponsors enough for their very generous support. However, with John Chew's amazing software and internet streaming 'live', these sponsors are enjoying an unprecedented amount of 'exposure' across the world as you would be astounded at the number of Scrabble Players who click online to ISC and other Scrabble websites and then link into the Tournament's website. |
