There was a pairing error in this round, with 14th-place Vincent Boyle (Sco) being paired with last-place Marion Loewenstein (ISR). In a way, I'm glad it happened, though I apologize to the players involved, as the hour I've spent since looking into the issue has helped me identify a tricky sporadic bug in tsh. The subroutine that estimates which players are in contention assumes that all players have finished playing to the same round number. Because of a last-minute schedule change (the tea break was delayed by an hour), I had to rush to prepare this round's pairings, and generated them before Vincent had turned in his result from round 21. His contention status was incorrectly evaluated, and he was Gibsonized to face Marion. I'll make sure this issue is fixed for next week's tournament, and be careful about waiting for all results to come in before generating pairings for now.

Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA) stays at Board 1 for now, because it's the middle of a session. His annotated game at Board 1 is against Kevin Synnott (Eng), who is playing here for the first time. Chinedu bingoes with the blank on his third turn, eventually draws the other blank and uses it to make a 57-point X play, emptying the bag to lead to a 414-298 win.

Theresa Brousson (MLT) keeps her lead with a 530-253 rout over Dan Sandu (ROM), the fifth-highest spread in the event.

Mikki Nicholson (Eng) however loses to David Delicata (MLT), falling from one to two games behind the leaders. At the same time, Helen Gipson (Sco) and David Delicata (MLT) move from two to one game behind Mikki, after beating Raymond Tate (Sco) 380-370 and Mikki 408-383.

Time for the last tea break of the day!
