Bronagh Kenny (IRL) played back-to-back bingoes against Jojo Delia (MLT) early on in their game; he came back with four consecutive bingoes to win 514-417! Not to be outdone, Catalin Caba (ROM) fought back against Dominic Borg's (MLT) THEATRES and STRANGER with four bingoes of his own to win 573-435, the first 1000-point game of the tournament. Photos of both boards will appear in this round's photo section shortly. Mary Doyle (IRL) lost to Reno Zammit (MLT) 346-354; with her eight-point loss, she joins Jojo Delia (MLT) and Duncan Keet (ZAF) in having lost six games by a total of less than 100 points. There are only two repeats pairings this round, a situation that will likely not recur today. This round is still paired on Round 24 standings, so the contenders are playing players were almost certainly eliminated last round, to give them one last chance. Theresa Brousson (MLT) plays Kevin Synnott (Eng) in the Board 1 annotated game, and crushes him 528-263, bringing her average up to 474.04 and cume to +2515. Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA) plays Dan Sandu (ROM) for a second time at Board 1, and beats him 467-353, losing a bit more ground against Theresa on spread. Mikki Nicholson (Eng) plays Jayne Mackenzie (Eng) at Board 3 and wins 413-385, to stay three games behind the leaders. Helen Gipson (Sco) beats John Barker (AUS) 417-323 at Board 4, and David Delicata (MLT) beats Pramit 423-412 at Board 5, so they both stay one game behind Mikki. Tea time, with six games to go! |
