In the annotated game at Board 1, it's Jojo Delia (MLT) vs. Theresa Brousson (MLT). What do the Greek letters BETA, IOTA, LAMBDA and RHO have in common? Apparently Theresa knew and Jojo didn't. Theresa wins a close game against Jojo, 433-413, with three bingoes apicece, though one of them didn't stay on the board. She stays one game behind Mikki Nicholson (Eng) and Evan Cohen (ISR), who beat Yi En Gan (DEU) 449-256 and Helen Gipson (Sco) 506-336 to stay at the top and widen their spread lead. (BETACISM#, IOTACISM, LAMBDACISM# and RHOTACISM are all acceptable.) John Barker's (AUS) 347-329 win over Duncan Keet (ZAF) this round is the lowest-scoring win so far. That's excellent conservation of energy on John's part. In Division B, Margaret Armstrong (Eng) stays on top with a 377-335 win over Mary Morgan (IRL), and widens her lead over the field to two games with Jim Wilkie's (Sco) 347-381 loss to Albert Zammit (MLT). Two games behind Margaret at 8-3 are Sammy Mangion (MLT) in second, Jim in third, Albert in fourth, and Geoff Cooper (Eng) in fifth. Gila Blits (ISR) beat Frans Farrugia (MLT) 549-347, the highest winning score so far. Lunchtime! |
