We begin this round with two players on 4-0: Pramit Kamath (IND) and Cecil Muscat (MLT). They are both playing other players, respectively Evan Cohen (ISR) and Jayne Mackenzie (Eng), so we could end up with two on 5-0. Behind them are 9 players on 3-1, waiting for the leaders to falter: Theresa Brousson (MLT), Mikki Nicholson (Eng), Terry Kirk (Eng), Jayne Mackenzie (Eng), David Delicata (MLT), Evan Cohen (ISR), Yi En Gan (DEU), Dan Sandu (ROM) and Eileen Meghen (IRL). (Jayne and Pramit are playing in the annotated game at Board 1.) At the end of this round, I am very surprised to see that there are no undefeated players remaining in Division A, after Pramit loses 335-411 to Jayne, and Cecil loses 404-440 to Evan. Marion Loewenstein (ISR) wins her first game, against Anna Borg (MLT), who's rated 481 points above her. Her 412-266 win is the greatest upset in Division B so far. That means there are no winless players in Division B. At the top of B, Margaret Armstrong (Eng) defeats Mario Seychell (MLT) 459-348 for his first loss, and Bronagh Kenny (IRL) defeats Pauline Cilia (MLT) 417-349, reducing the number of undefeated players from three to two. |
